Well, we thought that Season 19/20 concluded in a very strange manner!
Apologies to those who have been anxiously awaiting the leagues decision to finishing the Season.
This Season we managed to get a good number of games in due to the good run of weather September and October. November was locked down and due to the leagues decision to resume fixtures in December, some teams were fortunate to get a further 3 games in. Unfortunately, that’s been about it and given the Roadmap provided by the government football can resume from the 29th March, just in time for the Easter holidays.
The league has also been made aware that it can continue the season till the end of June and although this is music to our ears, in reality given the fact that a good number of teams play on Council owned pitches and we also have the impact of Summer sports this may not be achievable.
The league is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for our players to partake in this wonderful sport and is not led by peers who’m may make early or irrational decisions, as was the case in 2019/2020.
The management committee have members who are attending a meeting with West Riding FA and other local leagues on the 2nd & 4th March. This is to discuss: the return to football, issues over Council run pitches, what we need to do to keep any Season extensions legal and this is amongst other topics.
Following this meeting the league committee will convene over the following weekend to discuss our own Roadmap to returning football and relay their decision the following week.
